PPWR

Information on the current status of the PPWR (Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation) from Peter Gelhard

We would like to proactively inform you that we have guidelines in place to ensure compliance with the new requirements of the EU Packaging Regulation (PPWR, EU Regulation 2025/40, effective from 12 August 2026), including the requirements set out in Articles 5 to 12 and the requirement regarding the declaration of conformity:

  • Material declarations and information on the composition of each packaging component
  • Test reports and certificates demonstrating compliance with the substance restrictions set out in Article 5, e.g. limit values for heavy metals and PFAS in food-contact packaging, where applicable
  • An internal control system that guarantees the accuracy, completeness and traceability of all packaging documentation and ensures that EU declarations of conformity are available for packaging placed on the market in the EU

Some aspects of the reporting requirements depend on secondary legislation which will not have been finalised by the date of entry into force on 12 August 2026, including labelling, recyclability, minimisation, reuse and the recycling rate.

We continue to monitor these developments closely to ensure compliance with the applicable regulations.

Furthermore, we confirm that our guidelines also ensure that we fulfil our obligations as a producer under Article 15.
