Our natural sausage casings products are already a prime example of sustainability because it occurs during slaughter and does not have to be artificially manufactured first.
But for us at Peter Gelhard sustainability also means being environmentally conscious and handling available resources with care. We support the commitment of our employees, assume social responsibility and have an eye on future-oriented management in order to ensure the positive development of our company.

Energy-saving heating technology
The heating system in our company headquarters was converted to solar heat in 2022. This creates energy savings of approximately 30 percent. We are working continuously to further optimise our facilities with regard to energy consumption.
Electric mobility in the vehicle fleet
We are successively converting our vehicles, forklifts and even the employee vehicle fleet for our in-house staff and field staff to electric vehicles. We are also keeping an eye on our new, consumption-optimised truck fleet and plan to gradually convert to electric mobility as appropriate vehicle models become available.
Conserving electricity
We are focused on the sparing use of electricity. we train our employees in the use of electricity consumers in production and administration. All of our lighting has already been converted to led technology and the number of lamps has been reduced. The construction of large-scale photovoltaic systems on our production halls is currently being examined and will be implemented as quickly as possible.
Production and resources
Reduction of the use of finite resources
The reduction of the use of finite resources such as the salts and drinking water used in the production plant is a key issue for us. We are currently already cutting the use of brine by 20 percent. We are currently working on strategies that will reduce its use even further.
Reducing product packaging
We make sure to reduce the use of climate-damaging packaging and have already noticeably reduced the volume of foil wrapping as part of this.
Conserving paper
We have already been able to significantly reduce the use of paper in our administration and are currently working on converting other areas accordingly.

Vocational training with future perspectives
Internal vocational training holds special significance in our company. Nearly all trainees remain in our company after they have completed their training.

As an internationally operating company we welcome employees of all nationalities!
We ensure safety in the workplace
As a manufacturing company, work safety is a top priority for us. We therefore offer our employees regular instruction, technical tools, personal protective equipment and the required work clothing.
